Artists in Residence
The Paper Tigers
B I R A C H
Groups of artists from all over the world can use Birach's premises and atmosphere and work intensively on their new projects. Our »Artists in Residence« programme offers special conditions for groups and ensembles.
The KULA Compagnie, the Papertiger Theater Studio and the Neue Künstlertheater have all been working regularly in Birach over the years. Ideas for new projects originated here and were developed further in rehearsals or even experienced their launch in the protected setting of Birach. Public rehearsals and previews in Birach have long been an integral part of cultural life in the region.

The dancer Wura Oirana Moraes from Portugal was artist in residence in Birach from the end of September to mid-November 2023 and prepared a dance performance for the Porto International Dance Festival in Portugal in April 24. In the dance performance, Oirana explored the influence of her Brazilian father Mario Calixto, who died 30 years ago. Oirana was there as a 2-year-old when her father was preparing for a dance competition at the Impulstanz Festival in Vienna. Her father won the competition in Vienna and died of Aids just a few years later. For Oirana, this work closes a big circle.
